On a Class of Systems Describing Tumor Anti-Angiogenesis under Gompertzian Growth

چکیده
Abstract: Anti-angiogenic therapy is a novel treatment approach for cancer that aims at preventing a tumor from developing its own blood supply system that it needs for growth. In the course of the treatment the lining of the newly developing blood vessels formed by so-called endothelial cells is targeted with anti-angiogenic inhibitors which halt their growth. In this paper a general class of models for anti-angiogenic treatment is analyzed as a 3-dimensional optimal control problem with tumor cells, endothelial cells, and anti-angiogenic inhibitors as variables. It is assumed that the growth of the tumor is Gompertzian with a variable carrying capacity given by the endothelial cells, but the dynamics of endothelial cells is kept general. For this class of models, the optimality properties of singular controls are determined in great generality using Lie-algebraic computations.

Computational Method for Fractional-Order Stochastic Delay Differential Equations
Dynamic systems in many branches of science and industry are often perturbed by various types of environmental noise. Analysis of this class of models are very popular among researchers. In this paper, we present a method for approximating solution of fractional-order stochastic delay differential equations driven by Brownian motion. The fractional derivatives are considered in the Caputo sense...
متن کاملTwo Dimensional Mathematical Model of Tumor Angiogenesis: Coupling of Avascular Growth and Vascularization
Introduction As a tumor grows, the demand for oxygen and nutrients increases and it grows further if acquires the ability to induce angiogenesis. In this study, we aimed to present a two-dimensional continuous mathematical model for avascular tumor growth, coupled with a discrete model of angiogenesis. Materials and Methods In the avascular growth model, tumor is considered as a single mass, wh...
متن کاملIn vitro combination therapy of pathologic angiogenesis using anti-vascular endothelial growth factor and anti-neuropilin-1 nanobodies
Objective(s): Emergence of resistant tumor cells to the current therapeutics is the main hindrance in cancer treatment. Combination therapy, which mixes two or more drugs, is a way to overcome resistant problems of cancer cells to current treatments. Nanobodies are promising tools in cancer therapy due to their high affinity as well as high penetration to tumor sites....

The improved survival associated with adding the anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) monoclonal antibody bevacizumab (Avastin) to chemotherapy for the treatment of patients with metastatic colorectal cancer demonstrates the importance of targeting collateral cells involved in tumor growth, progression, and metastatic spread. Based on the Gompertzian model of tumor growth, adding anti...

Objective(s): Lung cancer is the main leading cause of cancer death worldwide. Angiogenesis is the main step in proliferation and spreading of tumor cells. Targeting vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is an effective approach for inhibition of cancer angiogenesis. Nanobodies (NBs) are a novel class of antibodies derived from the camel. Unique characteristics of Nbs like their small size ...
